So what do you do to save sunken ship from deteriorating after you have rescued it from the bottom of the ocean? Apparently you give it a bath for several years. Me, I turn into a prune after a couple of hours but supposedly it works for metals.

A couple intersting items of note from this article - the Navy had to approve of the plan, this might delay Clemson University from building a proposed expansion campus on the site where the Hunley is currently at and the Hunley Museum will have to be delayed too.

Here is a nice article about what archeologists have found while sifting through two tons of ocean sand that collected in the Monitor during its years under water. Its amazing how everyday items from the past become treasures to the future.

Funny how reporters can make opening a door seem cool and neat. In this case, it’s the rear hatch of the CSS Hunley – the hatch that the sailors used to enter the submarine. Honestly, it really is a good story and makes one think about how brave the sailors must have been just to enter the sub, much less sail in it.
